hahaha we’re in the negative by 80 bucks when I checked the account this morning.

Overdrafted by THREE DOLLARS.

And they slammed us with fucking, TWO, count them, TWO 36 dollar over draft fees, moved 1.83 from savings and charged us 3.50 for it, and then slapped a check overdraft fee of 5 dollars on.

Banks call this ‘overdraft protection’ or something similar. Depending where you are you probably had to sign paperwork opting into it (which they didn’t really give you enough time to actually read). If you’re poor or in any kind of financial trouble make sure you don’t opt-into this kind of thing. It’s super predatory.

If you’re already opted-in or you think you’re opted-in you can go down to your financial institution and opt-out at any time. Basically, your card just won’t work if you try to overdraft it which is a lot better than getting hit with a fine that, for a lot of us, is several months’ worth of discretionary income.

In the mean time, if you’re not dirt poor consider helping out a victim of predatory banking. Thanks!
